FEBRUARY = 28 DAYS OF SUNGLASSES

The calendar theme for this month is SUNGLASSES! It's a short month and it's going to be tough to narrow it down to 28 pairs of sunglasses, but here goes!

CLICK BELOW TO SHOP!
FEB.28: RAY-BAN WAYFARER. Here we are at the last day of February's 28 Days Of Sunglasses. There are still so many more shades to feature, but it seemed right to give this final selection to another iconic Ray-Ban style, the only brand to get two days this month. The Wayfarer was first introduced in 1956 and is credited with being the best selling sunglass of all time. Originally a black frame with gray lenses, there are now hundreds of styles and colors available.

FEB.27: OLIVER PEOPLES. Since their first retail store opened in 1986 on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, Oliver Peoples has been the "it" eyewear brand. Originally selling authentic, unworn vintage frames, they were the first to bring back the retro style sunglasses that old Hollywood had made famous. Aviators, horn-rimmed, clip-ons are just a few of the iconic styles that have been evergreens in their collection, and I myself have been a loyal customer since the early 90's!

FEB.26: WARBY PARKER. Warby Parker has recently been in the news for having been retained by Google to design the look of their new internet glasses, and also for a recent investment by J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler in the company. Warby Parker is clearly a very successful and hip e-commerce site selling their own line of trendy but affordable eyewear, with showrooms in major US cities as well. Personally I'm loving the Griffin, Appleton, and Everett!

FEB 25: MICHAEL KORS. Lime green, magenta, orange, lavender, blue... how to pick just one color of these fab spring toned, clear framed aviators!

FEB.24: VUARNET. Created by Olympic champion, Jean Vuarnet, who won the Downhill Skiing gold medal in 1960 at Squaw Valley, CA, and renowned French optician Roger Pouilloux, who had provided the eyewear to the French Ski Federation, Vuarnet is another iconic ski and lifestyle sunglass brand. The Skilynx lens, offers maximum protection in the mountains, where the suns UV rays are intensified by the snow and altitude. The yellow/green mineral lenses with anti-glare and silver bi-shaded coatings maximize optical clarity. They make everything look warm and sunny too!

FEB.23: OLIVER GOLDSMITH. Founded in 1926 by P. Oliver Goldsmith, OG sunglasses have have been the trend defining eyewear since the 1960's and 1970's, when sunglasses went from eye protection to a fashion statement. The eyewear of choice by such 20th Century style icons as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn,  Peter Sellers and The Rolling Stones, in addition to the design houses of Dior and Givenchy, Oliver Goldsmith continues to create the most stylish of sunglasses. The gorgeous "Manhattan" created 1960, the cool "Karl"from 1967, the mod "Y-Not"from 1966 are just a few of the original designs still available today. Check out their vintage archive for fun too and see the original Space Visor, Butterfly and Tennis Raquet sunglasses!

FEB.22: CARRERA. Another iconic brand, Carrera has been making sunglasses and googles since 1956, but they became hot in the early 80's with the CARRERA PORSCHE DESIGN collection. The look is still going strong and has some swagger, so get ready for stares if you want to rock these shades! Click HERE for special 10% off any Carrera sunglasses purchase at Solstice Sunglasses, promo code ILoveCarrera.

FEB.21: BOTTEGA VENETA. Loving these ultra chic translucent wayfarer-meets-cateye shades!

FEB.20: GUCCI METAL AVIATORS. These large white aviators detailed with the classic red and green Gucci logo stripes are one hot combo, adding a dose of glam to this sporty style.

FEB.19: THE ROW. Who would have ever imagined those Olson twins would grow up to create such a beautiful fashion line and their eyewear is no exception. Very much the trend this season, these retro style, thick rimmed, round cateye sunglasses with leather temples are available in a variety of shapes and tonal mixes.

FEB.18: RALPH LAUREN. With their sleek wrap silouette, oversized tortoise frames, and spring hinges for super comfort, be careful what trouble you might cause in these hot shades!

FEB.17: SALT. OPTICS. Today's sunglass selection comes from another one of my special guest editors and old friend, Adam Glassman, the Creative Director of O Magazine. Adam wears these avaitors from SALT., of which I happen to be a huge fan as well. For those who love this classic sporty shape, SALT., has quite a few chic aviator variations in their collection, such as the CORSA, the GOODWIN, and the VARGAS. I must add that the SALT. website is a visual treat, in particular their "blog" called SEASALT., which is an image feed of people, objects, and art they find inspiring... and I do too.

FEB.16: PRADA SHEILD SUNGLASSES. Shield your eyes from the sun with this very chic wrap from Miuccia Prada, who does sport with as much style as she does fashion.

FEB.15: BARTON PERRIERA. The hip shade du jour comes from the team of Bill Barton and Patty Perreira, otherwise known as Barton Perriera, a relatively new company from two Oliver Peoples alumni. Crafted from ultra luxe materials, Barton Perreira glasses are beautifully made, but its their chic vintage-modern style that sets them apart. Classic aviators, wayfarer and cateye styles are all done with a little wink that gives these shades their smart and sexy vibe.

FEB.14: VANS HEART SUNGLASSES. Happy Valentines Day everyone! Couldn't resist featuring these heart shaped sunglasses from Vans. Available in red and pink for $12, you gotta love 'em!

FEB.13: RANDOLPH AVIATORS. Today's sunglass selection comes from the very stylish sisters, Liz Lange and Jane Wagman, the founders and editors of Shopafrolic. They turned me on to these ultra cool aviators from Randolph Engineering, which have been standard issue equipment to the US Military and allied Air Forces for over 30 years. The quality specifications are set by the US Department of Defense for reliability, value and performance, and with the timeless appeal of the pilot frame, these sunglasses will always be in style. Thanks Liz and Jane!

FEB.12: SMITH OPTICS. One of the premiere sport optics companies, sponsoring many of the top action sports athletes, Smith Optics are recognized for their superior technical performance. But these shades have style too with their gradient lenses and fashion forward frames. From the Aura to the Brooklyn to the Lyric, these sunglasses can go from the beach or slopes straight to the street.

FEB.11: SPY TRON "SWAMP THING". These futuristic sci-fi wrap sunglasses are too much fun not to showcase, and still offer the full UV protection, technology and craftmanship for which Spy Optics is recognized.

FEB.10: STELLA MCCARTNEY. Today's hot pick comes from another one of my go to fashion editors, powerhouse and best selling author of The Truth About StyleStacy London! The round cat eye is a big trend for spring, and these baby pink Stella McCartney's, with their gradient lenses and deco detailed frame, have got to be some of the cutest shades around! Thanks Stacy!

FEB.9: BLINDE. These sport inspired sunglasses fuse design with technology for fashion focused appeal that has made Blinde the choice of such Hollywood A-listers as Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jake Gyllenhaal and Brad Pitt. The signature design element is the seven-barrel, six-pin stainless steel hinge, which is one of the strongest and most durable in the industry. The frames are made from the highest quality zyl, tumble polished for 72 hours to achieve maximum luster and a beta-titanium core wire provides increased flexibility and comfort in the temples.

FEB.8: ISKI. All of you who grew up skiing in the 70's and 80's will remember these ISKI sunglass classics. The tri-colored laminate frames with mirrored lenses went perfectly with jeans tucked into yellow Nordica skiboots, a bandana tied around the neck or just above the knee, and a Demetre sweater... now THAT was slopestyle! Well they're still available and ready for the next generation.

FEB.7: CHURCH AND STATE OPTICS. Happy to feature these "Sunnies" from my former SELF magazine colleague and good buddy, Kate Wingard. Designed in Vail, Colorado, and custom-made in Italy, her company Church And State, produces a very hip collection of performance ski/snowboard goggles and sunglasses, that offer high-end optics framed with style. The "Catwalk", shown above, is the newest addition to the line, coming spring 2013.

FEB.6: TOM FORD. Today's sunglass selection comes my good friend Bruce Pask, Mens Fashion Director ofThe New York Times and my go to guy for all questions mens style. Always sporty and chic, Bruce wears the Tom Ford MARKO aviators, which also happens to be Daniel Craig's sunglass of choice as James Bond in "Skyfall". I must say I like the men's styles for women too, the tortoise framed aviator, LEOPOLD, in particular!

FEB.5: PERSOLPersol are truly the chicest of sunglasses. Made famous by such style icons as Steve McQueen, Marcello Mastroianni, and Aristotle Onassis, Persol sunglasses have a rich history and an impressive array of iconic styles. Probably the most recognized are the Persol 714 folding sunglasses worn by McQueen in “The Thomas Crown Affair”. Shown above, the online optical boutique Eyegoodies has come out with limited edition of these sunglasses, custom tinted to the perfect shade of blue like those made for McQueen to wear in the movie.

FEB.4: RAY-BAN AVIATORS. Originally designed for fighter pilots, this iconic sunglass was first introduced by Ray-Ban in 1937, and has not gone out of style since. From the vintage green lens with gold frame, to the all black with wrap around earpiece, to the ambermatic Outdoorsman with bullet hole accent and trimmed brow bar, there are hundreds of lens and frame color combinations to choose from. This is a must have sunglass in your eyewear arsenal!

FEB.3: OAKLEY IDEAL. The Oakley Ideal seeks to redefine the performance sport wrap sunglass and add a bit of style appeal at the same time. Lightweight and stress-resistant, the minimal lines and smaller frame are designed for a woman's face, while the lens has Polaric Ellipsoid™ geometry that optimizes your peripheral and side view. Plutonite lenses filter out 100% of UVA/UVB/UVC rays, and Three-Point Fit holds lenses in precise optical alignment.

FEB.2: TOMS EYEWEAR. Yes, as in shoes, Toms makes a great line of sporty sunglasses with the same "One for One" purchase policy. For every pair of sunglasses sold, the gift of sight is given to someone in need. This is not just a charity purchase however, because these glasses are super stylish. From the Wayfarer inspired Beachmaster and Windward, to the aviator style Marco, all with the signature accent striped frames, there are so many great styles to choose from, you might be making a "two for two"purchase!

FEB.1: JULBO CLASSIC VERMONT GLACIER GLASSES. The legend returns! The Julbo Vermont Classic glacier glasses are the signature Julbo mountaineering glasses, brought back to celebrate Julbo's 125th anniversary. Meant for serious mountaineering, the Spectron 4 polycarbonate lenses block 100% of UV rays and moldable ear temples offer a customized fit... a nice bonus to those wearing them purely for their chic and classic style.
